Outpost Lodge
 

Opened in 1994, Outpost Lodge is the oldest B&B in Arusha. Set in a garden and decorated with wood and kitenge, this hotel provides a welcoming and affordable stop before or after a safari for budget-conscious travelers. It features 28 rooms, mostly doubles that can be converted into twins, along with triples, a quad, a family room, and one accessible room. All rooms include a safe and a spacious bathroom. Public amenities include a modest-sized pool, a restaurant, a bar, and an upstairs lounge area. Outpost Lodge offers budget-friendly accommodation with pleasant amenities!

Our History
The main house was once owned by the renowned conservationist Bernhard Grzimek, a key founder of Serengeti National Park and Director of the Frankfurt Zoological Society from 1945 to 1974.

Steve and Cathy Attwell purchased the house from the Grzimek family and have maintained strong connections with the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Over the years, the Outpost has served as a home away from home for many of the Society’s researchers and conservationists.

We offer 28 clean and comfortable rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, satellite TV, safes, fans, mosquito nets, soap, shower gel, shampoo, and kettles with coffee and tea. The rooms include a mix of singles, doubles, twins, triples, and one quadruple. All rooms are set in a garden environment and feature outdoor seating areas. Our accommodations are rustic, focusing on clean, comfortable, and affordable lodging with a unique atmosphere.

Cleanliness and Water
We prioritize cleanliness and take great pride in maintaining high standards.

Water can be a challenge across the country, and while we have ample storage, the municipal supply is unreliable and may occasionally result in shortages. We do our best to manage this, but occasional disruptions occur. The nationwide water shortage can also affect electricity due to interruptions in hydroelectric power.

Laundry Services
We offer daily laundry services for a small fee. However, due to water shortages, washing clothes in the rooms is not permitted.

Disabled Travelers
We welcome disabled travelers and have a fully accessible room available. Please make prior arrangements with management if you require this room.
